Trump Taj Mahal workers were left unemployed in October 2016, when the casino closed its doors. But the Hard Rock Atlantic City, which is opening on the same property, has given these former employers new life.

According to the Press of Atlantic City, the Hard Rock wants to hire former Taj Mahal employees who worked at the old casino at least 30 days prior to its closing.

Current job opportunities include: casino dealers, slot operations, cage operations, marketing, food and beverage, and entertainment.

Trump Taj Mahal Workers Clashed with Old Owner

Billionaire Carl Icahn purchased the Trump Taj Mahal in hopes of turning a profit on the beleaguered casino. He originally bought the property for $20 million, then sunk another $100 million into it to keep the casino afloat.

But Icahn ran into serious trouble when he took away the employees’ benefits. This eventually sparked a strike, which lasted for months.

Icahn refused to restore the benefits and threatened to close the casino if the strike didn’t end. The workers refused to budge, and he shuttered the casino over a year ago.

The Trump Taj Mahal has remained closed ever since, and the property was purchased by Hard Rock last year.

Hard Rock Working on Rebranding

The Hard Rock Atlantic City is in the process of transforming the old Trump Tah Mahal to their own brand. This has involved doing things like removing the onion domes and ruby-red minarets that made the Taj Mahal famous.

Overall, Hard Rock investors Jack Morris and Joe Jingoli are spending $500 million to renovate the property. The company says that this will result in 1,000 construction jobs, and another 3,000 in permanent jobs when the casino is finished.

The resort is set to open next summer in 2019.

Once the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City is officially open, it will offer 2,400 slot machines and 130 table games.
