Becoming frustrated while playing slot machines is nothing new. Many players go through emotional low points when they’re suffering a losing streak. But this becomes an entirely different matter when players start breaking machines.

And the Resorts World Casino in Queens, New York is seeing a lot of people smash their slot machines. Police told the New York Post that they’ve arrested 491 people on criminal mischief charges since the casino opened in October 2011.

The majority of these arrests involve players who broke their machine after losing.

“They’re very fragile, and they’re easy to break,” a police source said.

“Sometimes, guys punch it hard, other times, they just tap it. Sometimes they can’t believe [they broke them].”

Players Have a Chance to Rectify Breaking Slots

It might seem like a breaking a slot machine is grounds for immediate criminal charges. But as the officer told the Post, sometimes gamblers are surprised when they break these machines.

Therefore, Resorts World oftentimes gives players a chance to rectify the situation by paying for damages.

The cost for fixing a slots machine that players smash ranges from $600 to $1,400. Assuming gamblers are willing to pony up the expenses, they can get away with breaking their slots.

How to Control Your Rage with Slot Machines

It’s not exactly easy to control yourself when you’re losing hundreds or even thousands of dollars in a given slots session. But there are a couple of techniques that you can use to calm yourself.

One involves simply taking a few deep breaths. This alone can clear your head and help you better concentrate on the situation at hand.

Another common technique is to force yourself to go on a 15 minute walk. You may be angry during the first part of the walk, but you should cool off after the 15 minutes.

Whatever the case is, the last thing you want to do is take your anger out on a slot machine and end up breaking it. The cost is expensive, and criminal mischief charges can be even worse.
