Sir Richard Branson has purchased the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

In his typical dashing style, Branson was barefoot, popping champagne, and flanked by dancers after making the announcement.

“I’m still pinching myself!” said the Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Records founder.

Hard Rock Las Vegas Will See Makeover Under Branson

Branson said that the Vegas property will undergo renovations that are expected to be finished by late 2019. He promised that they’ll be “tasteful [and] fun.”

The Hard Rock is known for having a huge guitar outside. But Branson told the Huffington Post that this “may not survive,” and could be replaced by a big “V” symbol.

But the overhaul won’t see everything replaced. Branson noted that he “comes from the rock ‘n’ roll business,” and wants to keep some of the Hard Rock collection. “[This is] something that fortunately comes with the hotel. It’s incredible for me to suddenly have this collection.”

Branson Finally Gets Vegas Location for Virgin Empire

Richard Branson has been looking for a property in Vegas for a while. He floated the idea of buying a property and turning it into a Virgin-branded hotel.

Now he finally has this with the Hard Rock. But it’s unlikely that he’ll completely rename the hotel and take away from the property’s unique history.

The Vegas Hard Rock opened in 1995. And Branson said that it “was the place to be for many, many years, and it will be the place to be for many, many years in the future.”

The terms and sale price of the Hard Rock Las Vegas haven’t been disclosed. Instead, all that’s known is that Branson bought the property from a group of partners, including LA-based investment firm Juniper Capital Partners.

Virgin also has a hotel property in Chicago and plans to build more locations in Dallas, New York, Nashville, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.
